Southern end of Vandegrift looking down the valley south along
Route 9  and toward the hills of the DaKrong River Valley.

One thing impressed me about Vietnam right away. It was a gorgeous country. From the air, the valley Stud was located in was stunning, as you can see in this photo looking toward the south.

Route 9 snaked along the valley on its way to the DaKrong River Valley and Khe Sanh.

The North Vietnamese Army later overran Stud in the Easter Offensive of 1972 and wiped out much of what stood there in 1969. Today, as I understand it, Vandegrift has been settled and built upon. If it's true, I don't blame them. What a beautiful valley... (Please see photo No. 8)
